our mission

BEACON LA’s mission is to remove every obstacle standing between homeowners and their ability to rebuild, return home, and restore their community within five years after disaster. Through advocacy, rebuilding education, local contractor support, access to resources, and community-driven partnerships, BEACON LA works to accelerate rebuilding timelines, protect vulnerable homeowners, and preserve the culture, history, and people that make up the Altadena community, ensuring those who want to return home have the opportunity and support to do so.

The Stakes

  • 6,746 units

Units destroyed by the Eaton Fire — making it the second most destructive wildfire in California history.

  • 75%

Of Altadena fire survivors are underinsured — with gaps between insurance payouts and actual rebuild costs averaging $200,000–$400,000 per home.

  • 17% under construction

    • 1,682 Permits issued, 1,114 in Construction

    • Year 2 target: about 1,419 homes

    • Year 3 target: about 1,419 homes

    • By the end of Year 3: about 2,861 homes total should be completed in years 2 and 3 combined to stay on an even pace toward 95% before 2030.

  • 5 years

    • 95% of 6,000 = 5,700 homes

    • Minus the 23 completed by end of Year 1

    • 35 Certificates of Occupancy - Year 1

    • Leaves 5,677 homes to complete from years 2–5
